Hey y’all!
I’ll try to keep this post short and…

But Sweet is the name of an *adorable* bakery in Split, Croatia.
And one day, as I was walking down the sidewalk, I happened to notice it.
(Okay, to be honest, the fact that it was a bakery probably helped. I think my brain has some kind of autopilot, dessert-obsessed GPS.)

At the time, I had also become completely obsessed with hand lettering.
(I’m a “scanner.” So is Oprah! Don’t judge.)
So I found the adorable bakery on Facebook, and sent them a message, asking if I could hand letter the chalkboard outside their shop.

So I found my way back to Sweet (it wasn’t difficult for my sugar-fueled brain), and got to work hand lettering!
I started by seasoning the chalkboard and getting everything laid out ~just so~ with some guide lines and initial sketches.

While chalking and chatting, I found out that Sweet was actually a relatively new endeavor, having just opened their doors a few months earlier.
When I asked Jelena, the lady filling the bakery with amazing smells while I wiped chalk dust on my shorts, why she wanted to open Sweet, she responded simply:
“Because I think I must be crazy.”
(LOL. Can that be my new answer for why I decided to start The Travel Medley?? I totally feel you, girl.)

Some pictures, some chats, and a few hours later (yes, hand lettering takes a long time)…
I was finished!

And despite the fact that I had never officially done any chalkboarding before this, (and that I was an overly-enthusiastic stranger that basically invited myself into their bakery)…
I was generously given some cookies and cake jars for my time!
Ooooh baby. Yesyesyes.

For the most part, Sweet makes custom-order cakes, cookies, and other sweets for special occasions and parties. But if you ever find yourself in Split, Croatia, they also sell samples in-store!
See above map. Alternatively, allow your dessert-addicted brain to guide you (zombie style) to their front door.

Sweet is also on Instagram and Facebook!
Ya know, if you’re into the self-inflicted torture of ogling food you can’t actually eat (like I am).
And take this as a lesson… exploring random interests and meeting locals while you travel is super easy!
Just send them a FB message and make it happen, y’all.
It’s a ~piece of cake~ 😉
(I know. I’m sorry)
{This post was *not* sponsored. Yes, I was given delicious baked goods. No, they didn’t ask me to write a blog post about it. Especially not 8 months after the fact. Lol.}
